An Irish scene can change in moments… shadows advance and retreat across rolling pastures and mountains as clouds veil and then reveal the sun. Steel-grey water suddenly sparkles and dazzles. Hills and peaks loom out of grey mists. Sheep huddle against driving rain on a bare mountainside and wait for better days. Streams tumble and gurgle down wooded slopes, the patterns of their froth constantly changing over peat-brown waters. The Irish landscape is a well-lit stage, a theatre for anyone who cares to look…  Jim Halligan

I was born and grew up in Wexford but now live in Shankill in Co Dublin and have been painting seriously since the early 80’s. I’m fascinated by the ever-changing nature of light in Ireland. Self-taught, I have developed a tight and detailed style in my work to interpret the Irish landscape. Currently, I use acrylic paint on canvas, board and paper as it allows me work quickly while achieving the tonal depth of oil paint.
